
Join us this coming hunting season for the 1st ever Jake's Big Buck Contest. It is a local contest with a Grand prize of $1000 to the best buck taken in our area. We have gotten some great sponsors together to help make it all possible. Just come to our meeting September 19, 2009 at the exhibit building on the Longview Fairgrounds to sign up free for the big buck contest and for a great time of hunting presentations.

Eligibility
Hunters. Any hunter who has a valid state of Texas hunting license and lawfully harvests a white-tailed deer in Texas during the 2009-2010 hunting season is eligible for entry into the Jake’s Big Buck Contest. The only requirement for the hunter is that they sign up for the contest on September 19, 2009 at the exhibit building on the Longview, TX fairgrounds between the hours of 10:00 am and 3:00 pm.
Animals. This contest is to involve both typical and non-typical white-tailed deer. Each animal must meet the following eligibility requirements:
1) The animal must have been native-bred in the state of Texas.
2) The animal must have been wild-raised. Animals that were born in captivity and subsequently released into the wild are not eligible. Animals that were released from a licensed Scientific Breeder facility are not eligible. Deer (and their offspring) held under the authority of a Deer Management Permit (DMP) are eligible for program entry. Scientific Breeder bucks introduced under a DMP are not eligible.
3) The animal must not have been trapped and/or released at any time during its life. Animals that were relocated under the authority of any Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) permit (such as TTT) are not eligible.
4) The animal must have been lawfully harvested in the state of Texas by a licensed hunter during the 2009-2010 hunting season.
5) The animal must have been harvested within the following counties: Cass, Gregg, Harrison, Rusk, Smith, Upshur.
HOW ANIMAL IS TO BE SCORED
Every animal to be submitted to the big buck contest must be scored with the intention of entering into the Texas Big Game Association. After receiving their score cards from a certified TBGA scorer, the score card along with a photo must then be brought to Jake’s Feed and Animal Center in order to enter the contest.
Scoring:
A) All Scored Entries must be scored by a certified TBGA scorer, to be accomplished on the terms of the individual scorer.
B) Scoring will follow all Boone and Crockett Club guidelines as published in the most recent edition of Measuring and Scoring North American Big Game Trophies, published by the Boone and Crockett Club.
C) The TBGA will utilize net green scores for Scored Category ranking criteria.
D) Animals in velvet may not be scored unless the velvet is removed prior to scoring.
E) Animals with split skulls may not be scored.
F) Antlers with broken tines may be measured to the point where the breakage occurred. Repaired antler material may not be measured.
G) "Shopping for Scores" is prohibited. If it is determined that an animal has been scored by more than one scorer, the entry will be removed from the program, at the discretion of the Jake’s Feed.
H) All scored entries are subject to re-score.
I) Jake’s Feed has the right to refuse acceptance of any entry based on their discretion.
AWARDS GIVEN
Prizes will be awarded at our Big Buck Awards Banquet to be held in February. No hunter may win more than one prize class. Winning the Overall Big Buck Award disqualifies you to win any of the other prizes awarded in any other class. The Big Buck Contest will be awarding prizes to the following Categories:
1) Overall Big Buck. Open for all entries meeting the eligibility requirements and will be awarded for the largest net score overall.
2) Youth Class. Awarded to the licensed youth hunter who submits the animal with the largest net score.
3) Ladies Class. Awarded to the licensed female hunter who submits the animal with the largest net score.
4) Bow Class. Awarded to the licensed hunter who submits the animal with largest net score that was taken by a bow.
ENTRY DEADLINE
All entries must be submitted by January 31st, 2010 to America’s Country Store- Jake’s Feed before 6:30pm. No entries after this date and time will be accepted.
